With the Powermonkey explorer 2, Powertraveller gives users the ability to generate their own power from a small, compact unit, whatever situation they find themselves in.

Drawing upon design elements from the award-winning Powermonkey expedition, the new Powermonkey explorer 2 is the toughest portable charger available on the market today and paves the way for the addition of future power generation options.

The unit houses a powerful, dual-core, 6000mAh lithium-ion battery, capable of recharging an iPhone 5 up to three times, a GoPro Hero3+ four times and a Garmin Edge 1000 four times. It is also compatible with a plethora of other 5V devices such as tablets (including iPad), iPods, digital cameras, sat phones and more.

However, it is the tough, rugged design of the Powermonkey explorer 2 that sets it apart from other 6000mAh chargers on the market.

With an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of 67, the Powermonkey explorer 2 is waterproof for 30 minutes in up to 1 metre of water when used with the supplied cable. The waterproof capabilities are not compromised even when the unit is charging a device. The bespoke "bath-plug" style waterproof seal ensures all connections are watertight, giving users the confidence to go farther, faster and longer off the beaten track.

The micro USB IN and micro USB OUT charging connectors include IP65- rated weatherproof caps to keep dust and splashes of water out when not in use, whilst the durable 80cm "Y" cable and powermonkey explorer 2 unit have been tested down to -30°C, ensuring both the cable and the unit will remain strong and waterproof.

The ridged, anodised casing provides a secure grip, even if hands are cold or wet and the cylindrical design makes the unit ultra-strong - enough to support the weight of a Land Rover Defender. Tough enough to withstand heavy knocks and spills, the powermonkey explorer 2 will survive the harshest of environments without compromising on charging capabilities, supporting users in any situation.

The powermonkey explorer 2 will have a bike mount accessory (not included) which attaches to the bike frame and allows users to charge their GPS systems / smartphones whilst riding. This can also be attached to tent poles, etc ensuring the unit is secure whilst charging devices. The bike mount will be available to purchase by the end of 2014.

Designed so that additional charging options can be added at a later date, the powermonkey explorer 2 will eventually have its own hand crank and wind turbine modules. What is the operating temperature range for the powermonkey explorer2?
The powermonkey explorer2 will charge devices in temperatures of -20 to 60 degrees Centigrade. You can charge the explorer2 in temperatures on 0 - 45 degrees Centigrade.

If I am not going to use my powermonkey explorer2 for a while, is it best to store it with a charge remaining?
Yes. If you plan to store your powermonkey explorer2 for a long period of time without use, it should be stored with at least 60% charge remaining. This helps keeps the internal battery in good condition.

How many times will the explorer2 charge my devices?
Smartphone: 2-3 full charges

iPad/Tablet: Depending on your tablets make and model it can be anywhere from 25-100%. Please contact support@powertraveller.com 

GPS: 3-4 times depending on make and model.

SLR Camera (Via optional 5v Cradle): 1-2 times depending on make and model.

Can I use my smartphone charger to charge my powermonkey explorer2?
Yes! The powermonkey explorer2 has a micro USB input port for this very reason. As more and more devices switch to this connecter it seemed obvious to use this for the powermonkey explorer2. Additionally, the powermonkey explorer2 comes with a USB cable. This means you can plug it into any USB mains plug you may have.

How do I turn my powermonkey explorer2 on?
To turn on your powermonkey, hold down the button for three seconds. To turn it off, do the same.

Is my powermonkey explorer2 waterproof? 
The body of your powermonkey explorer2 is totally waterproof however the input and output sockets are only IP65 (splash proof.)

Is my powermonkey explorer2 tough enough for demanding expeditions? Yes! The powermonkey explorer2 is made of aluminium meaning it is unbelievably strong. We put it under a Land Rover wheel and it held the car up and still worked afterwards. The wire is tougher than most and the sockets have protectors so it is perfect for any expedition.

Can I charge my powermonkey explorer2 and charge my device at the same time?
Yes you can. This is called daisy chaining. However, if the battery on your powermonkey explorer2 drops to below 10% you won’t be able to. You will have to wait until it has charged back up to 30% before being able to daisy chain again.

Can I charge my powermonkey explorer2 via solar power?
Yes you can. You can charge it via the solargorilla or the powermonkey extreme solar panel (sold separately) using the USB cable included with your powermonkey explorer2.
